No: 138, 3 May 2014
We regret and condemn the incidences of violence that occurred in the Ukrainian city of Odessa between opposing groups on 2 May 2014, and in this context, the arson attack against the Odessa Trade Union building causing the death of more than 30 people. We express our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in yesterday's incidents and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
We are deeply concerned that the events in Odessa and especially this painful and deplorable incident may exacerbate the tensions in the country.
As we stressed previously, we underline once again that all segments of society should express their views and demands through democratic means and in a peaceful manner and refrain from actions that are unlawful and contrary to public order and invite everyone to act with restraint and common sense.
