Press Release Regarding the Announcement of Ceasefire in Gaza
No: 266, 11 August 2014
We welcome the announcement of another 72-hour ceasefire in Gaza as of midnight yesterday.
At the current stage, it is important to make the ceasefire sustainable. Otherwise, such temporary intervals will not be sufficient to ensure lasting calm in the region.
Turkey makes continuous efforts in coordination with its international partners for the establishment of a sustainable ceasefire. In addition, Turkey maintains its humanitarian assistance endeavours toward satisfying the urgent needs of the people in Gaza. In this regard, the process of transferring wounded Palestinians from Gaza to Turkey for treatment has started, and the first group of wounded has arrived in Turkey.
Turkey will resolutely maintain its support in every field to its Palestinian brothers and sisters living under difficult conditions in Gaza.
