Press Release Regarding the Disturbances in Yemen
No: 22, 19 January 2015
We are deeply concerned about the kidnapping of the chief of cabinet to the Yemeni President on 17 January and subsequently the clashes which broke out around the Presidential Palace in Yemen on 19 January at a stage when the new draft Constitution, which is important for national dialogue and reconciliation to ensure the completion of the political transition, has been presented to the President.
We call on all parties to respect the legitimate State authorities, refrain from violence and act with common sense and responsibility for the future of the country. We emphasize that re-establishing a permanent stability in the region is possible only if the Gulf Cooperation Council Initiative, National Dialogue Conference Outcomes and the Peace and National Partnership Agreement dated 21 September 2014 are fully implemented by all parties.
