Press Release Regarding the Latest Developments in Burkina Faso
We welcome the fact that Transition President Michel Kafando, Transition Government Prime Minister Isaac Zia and other officials of Burkina Faso, who were detained during a coup orchestrated on 16 September 2015, have been released and that the Interim Government has recently been reinstated.
It is our firm belief that the Transition Government’s return to power and the elections to be held in the country in the upcoming period will strengthen the democratic transformation of Burkina Faso by way of meeting the justified expectations of its people.
We appreciate the efforts of all national, regional and international actors and in particular the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union and the United Nations, who contributed to the reinstatement of legitimate authorities in Burkina Faso.
We call on the international community to continue its support to Burkina Faso during this critical period.
